In my previous post I talked about the priority of the vestibular system in the neural hierarchy inputs to the brain, about balance capability . They override the perceived balance capability inputs from the proprioceptive system. To put it simply you may have the physical/functional capability but if your vestibular system is malfunctioning it’s inputs to the brain will override them and cause your brain to limit movement to avoid injury. The questions for you are whether it is your vestibular system or proprioceptive system inhibiting your balance and range of movement, or is it the connectivity between the two and most importantly, what can you do to remedy the dysfunction.
I covered the causes and remedies here for Vestibular system dysfunction .
In this vlog I will demonstrate a stability matrix from 3DMAPS and how it addresses balance and control problems in the proprioceptive system. This routine is designed to build on the range of motion, from the mobility matrix, by further strengthening the standing leg in all three planes, enabling it to balance and control the reaching leg and bring it back..
These exercise routines include tweaks for more support for those starting out and some with less support and more tweaks that challenge your capability.
